The Department of Zoology is one of the pioneer departments which came in to existence in Govt. College Dhaliara, District Kangra since 1996. The department caters to the need to develop scientific temper amongst the students of H P and other states who study here. The syllabus prescribed by the Himachal Pradesh University is followed which aims to expose students to the world of Zoology across a wide spectrum from international to the local, inculcating in them the capacity to “Think global and act local”. The students can see for themselves the Animal diversity displayed by about numerous specimens, slides, models and charts. For detailed study the department boasts of binocular microscopes and compound microscopes and dissection microscopes. The modern experiments in Zoology can be performed using the electrophoresis unit. Audio visual equipmens with wi fi facilities are used both by the faculty and students to make e- presentations on the subject

Field visits are conducted to places like the science city, sanctuaries, apiaries, zoo, poultry farms, and research institutes.

Various academic and co-curricular activities are conducted throughout the year to shape up the students into smart and confident person with emphasis on personality development and career building.

The quality of education provided can be assessed from the fact that every year 2-3 students are selected in the MSc course of Zoology. The department is proud of the students it has metamorphosed
